Online discussion forums and conferencing systems are common features of learning environments. A lot of your interaction with tutors and fellow students may be through online communication tools.

The oldest of the online communication tools, email is still vital for communications.  As a student you will receive e-mail communications from the University of London, your Programme team, Moodle discussion forum notifications and possibly other members of LSHTM staff.  It's worth making sure these communications don't go to spam or clutter folders, as you could miss some important announcements.
